Teton County Sustainable Destination Management Plan
November 2021 – December 2022
Globally known as the iconic Jackson Hole, Teton County has faced many years of record tourism growth. This continuous growth is at potentially unsustainable levels for residents, the natural environment as well as the quality of the visitor experience. Recognizing the need for a more balanced approach to tourism, community leaders raised the flag for outside assistance to create the destination’s first comprehensive destination management plan.
Confluence Sustainability partnered with George Washington University International Institute of Tourism Studies to support the Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Board (JHTTB), Teton County and community stakeholders to develop a multi-year sustainable destination management plan (SDMP) and stewardship strategic roadmap. The year-long process was supported by a multi-stakeholder community advisory committee and ongoing engagement with community and tourism representatives including elected officials, private businesses, public agencies, non-profit organizations, and residents.
Plan outcomes focused on key priorities and strategic actions that impact resident quality of life and the visitor experience. This includes overall management of tourism, resident and visitor education and engagement, transportation and traffic, workforce development and housing, and climate action.
